The connections between river terraces and slope deposits as paleoclimate proxies: The Guadalaviar - Turia sequence (Eastern, Iberia Chain, Spain)

This study, focused on the well-exposed terrace deposits of Guadalaviar and Turia rivers associated slopes, provides a better understanding genetic connection between river-terrace sediments slope accumulations in setting influenced by temperate to cold (extraglacial) climates: Sierra de Albarracín Alfambra–Teruel depression (Iberian Chain, eastern Spain). The system comprises seven levels, Qt1 Qt7. In two older levels (Qt2 Qt3) lateral connections with thick stratified screes were observed. lower terraces (Qt4 Qt7) have less expressive deposits. New Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) ages, using quartz-OSL pIRIR290, obtained from these Quaternary Qt2 is dated ~310 270 ky (Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 9–8); Qt3 dates ~175 150 (MIS 6), Qt4 ~136 80 5e–a) Qt5 ~23 2); Qt6 has tufa 10–4.6 (early–middle Holocene), while Qt7 probably records last 4 (late Holocene). connected upper parts generated under cold-climate conditions MIS 8 6, respectively. These are oldest fluvial documented Mediterranean region, their preservation recognition thus being considerable significance.
