On the Cohomological Equation for Nilflows
Let X be a vector field on a compact connected manifold M . An important question in dynamical systems is to know when a function g : M → R is a coboundary for the flow generated by X , i.e. when there exists a function f : M → R such that Xf = g. In this article we investigate this question for nilflows on nilmanifolds. We show that there exists countably many independent Schwartz distribution...

متن کاملThe Cohomological Equation for Area - Preservingflows on Compact
We study the equation Xu = f where X belongs to a class of area-preserving vector elds, having saddle-type singularities, on a compact orientable surface M of genus g 2. For a \full measure" set of such vector elds we prove the existence, for any suuciently smooth complex valued function f in a nite codimensional subspace, of a nitely diierentiable solution u. The loss of derivativesis nite, bu...
متن کاملGeometric representation of interval exchange maps over algebraic number fields
This paper is concerned with the restriction of interval exchange transformations (IETs) to algebraic number fields, which leads to maps on lattices. We characterize renormalizability arithmetically, and study its relationships with a geometrical quantity that we call the drift vector. We exhibit some examples of renormalizable IETs with zero and non-zero drift vector and carry out some investi...
متن کاملA Sharkovskii-type theorem for minimally forced interval maps
We state and prove a version of Sharkovskii’s theorem for forced interval maps in which the forcing flow is minimal (Birkhoff recurrent). This setup includes quasiperiodically forced interval maps as a special case. We find that it is natural to substitute the concept of “fixed point” with that of “core strip”. Core strips are frequently of almost automorphic type. AMS 2000 Mathematics Subject ...
