چکیده
Abstract Rice false smut, caused by Ustilaginoidea virens , is one of the most destructive diseases in major world rice-producing regions. Basic leucine zipper (bZIP) proteins, which belong to an evolutionarily conserved transcription factor family and play critical roles various biological processes eukaryotes, have been previously identified U. ; however, their functions still need be further elucidated. Therefore, we aimed analyze UvbZIP6 a member bZIP . In this study, found that was highly up-regulated at 7 days post-inoculation. Deletion resulted increase fungal growth sensitivity Congo red calcofluor white, whereas decrease hyperosmotic, oxidative, sodium dodecyl sulfate stresses. Conidiation capacity reduced UvbZIP6- knockout mutants, but conidial morphology germination were not affected. Although mutants infection rice plants, they could form smut balls. Our study indicates required for growth, conidiation, stress response, ball formation

UvHOG1 is important for hyphal growth and stress responses in the rice false smut fungus Ustilaginoidea virens
Rice false smut caused by Ustilaginoidea virens is one of the most important diseases of rice worldwide. Although its genome has been sequenced, to date there is no report on targeted gene deletion in U. virens and no molecular studies on genetic mechanisms regulating the infection processes of this destructive pathogen. In this study, we attempted to generate knockout mutants of the ortholog o...
متن کاملRice False Smut Fungus, Ustilaginoidea virens, Inhibits Pollen Germination and Degrades the Integuments of Rice Ovule
Ustilaginoidea virens is a flower-infecting fungus that forms false smut balls in rice panicle. Rice false smut has long been considered a minor disease, but recently it occurred frequently and emerged as a major disease in rice production. In vitro co-cultivation of U. virens strain with young rice panicles showed that U. virens enters inside of spikelets from the apex and then grows downward ...
متن کاملGenome Sequence of Ustilaginoidea virens IPU010, a Rice Pathogenic Fungus Causing False Smut
Ustilaginoidea virens is a rice pathogenic fungus that causes false smut disease, a disease that seriously damages the yield and quality of the grain. Analysis of the U. virens IPU010 33.6-Mb genome sequence will aid in the understanding of the pathogenicity of the strain, particularly in regard to effector proteins and secondary metabolic genes.
متن کاملQuantitative detection of the rice false smut pathogen Ustilaginoidea virens by real-time PCR.
Rice false smut (RFS) is an important rice disease that is caused by the pathogen Ustilaginoidea virens. In this study, we developed a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay to detect U. virens and to estimate the level of disease. The genomic DNAs of U. virens and rice were extracted together from the rice samples. Real-time PCR assays were performed and compared to conventional neste...
متن کاملUstiloxins, antimitotic cyclic peptides from false smut balls on rice panicles caused by Ustilaginoidea virens.
Ustiloxins A (1a), B (1b), C (1c), D (1d) and E (1e), antimitotic peptides, have been isolated from the water extract of false smut balls caused on the panicles of rice plant by a fungus Ustilaginoidea virens. The structure of 1b was assigned from its spectral property and its amino acid analysis in relation to 1a whose structure was determined previously by a combination of X-ray crystallograp...
