The broad-band spectrum of 3C 120 observed by BeppoSAX
We study a broad-band X-ray observation by BeppoSAX of the broad-line radio galaxy 3C 120. The primary X-ray continuum is well described by a power law with the photon index of Γ ∼ 1.85± 0.05 and a high-energy break or a cutoff. The obtained e-folding energy of ∼ 100–300 keV corresponds to kT ∼ 50 keV in thermal-Compton models. A soft X-ray excess is found at a statistical significance of & 98%...
متن کاملThe X-ray Jet of 3C 120: Evidence for a Non-standard Synchrotron Spectrum
We report on archival data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory for the radio jet of 3C120. We consider the emission process responsible for the X-rays from 4 knots using spectra constructed from radio, optical, and X-ray intensities. While a simple synchrotron model is adequate for three of the knots, the fourth (’k25’), which was previously detected by ROSAT and is now well resolved with Chandr...
متن کاملX-ray Emission from the Radio Jet in 3c 120
We report the discovery of X-ray emission from a radio knot at a projected distance of 25′′ from the nucleus of the Seyfert galaxy, 3C 120. The data were obtained with the ROSAT High Resolution Imager (HRI). Optical upper limits for the knot preclude a simple power law extension of the radio spectrum and we calculate some of the physical parameters for thermal bremsstrahlung and synchrotron sel...
متن کاملA Warm Hot Intergalactic Medium towards 3c 120?
We observed the Seyfert I active galaxy/broad line radio galaxy 3C 120 with the Chandra high energy transmission gratings and present an analysis of the soft X-ray spectrum. We identify the strongest absorption feature (detected at > 99.9% confidence) with O VIII Lyα (FWHM = 1010+295 −265 km s −1), blueshifted by −5500± 140 km s−1 from systemic velocity. The absorption may be due to missing bar...
متن کاملLinearizing the Observed Power Spectrum
Semi-analytic treatment of the power spectrum with the approximation of constant linear bias provides a way to compare cosmological models to a large amount of data, as Peacock & Dodds (1994, 1996; hereafter PD94 and PD96, respectively) have shown. By applying the appropriate corrections to the observational power spectrum it is possible to recover the underlying linear power spectrum for any g...
