The association between adherence to a dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet and neuro-psychological function in young women

Abstract Background The adherence to a Dietary Approaches Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet may have bidirectional relationship with mental wellbeing. We aimed evaluate the association between compliance DASH and neuro-psychological function in young women. Methods In this cross-sectional study, total of 181 girls aged 18 25 years were recruited. dietary intakes study participants evaluated using valid reliable food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) containing 65 items. Neuropsychological was standard questionnaires. Results As be expected , individuals highest tertile (T3) (highest adherence) found consume more folate, fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy, nuts, legume, seed, less sweetened beverage sodium, compared lowest (T1, adherence). There significant negative correlation cognitive consumption red processed meat (r = ? 0.168; p < 0.05); quality life score sodium 0.151; 0.01) depression vegetables 0.174; 0.05). multivariate multinomial logistic regression analyses adjusted for age, BMI energy intake, DASH-style associated lower stress (OR 0.70; 95%CI: 0.34–1.47, P 0.067; T3 vs. T1) difficulty sleep initiation 0.46; 0.21–1.00, 0.017; T1). Conclusion Adherence reduced initiating sleep.
