The Antiviral Potential of Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia (IHP) on Herpes Simplex Viruses (HSV): A Review Article

Herpes Simplex Viruses (HSV) viruses are highly contagious that commonly cause dermatitis, encephalitis, meningitis and genitourinary infections also can lead to cervical cancer. For treatment of HSV infections, several physical methods antiviral drugs introduced, medications prevent or reduce outbreaks. The use herbal medicine with effects attracted worldwide attentions. aim this review article is introduce the Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia (IHP) potential against two serotypes help evaluate develop new from natural sources. To provide review, relevant articles in some authentic databases including PubMed, Web Science, Science Direct, Scopus, Google Scholar SID (scientific information database), 1967 April 2022 were collected, selected botanicals their scientific names classifications outcome (CC50 IC50) introduced. In data regarding anti-herpetic activities showed 34 herbs 17 families have inhibit serotypes. According families, Lamiaceae family has highest percentage (29.41 %) plants activity serotypes, recent Salvia officinalis, Melissa Securigera Securidaca, Hyssopus Quercus brantii, Artemisia aucheri Curcuma longa remarkable Results suggest further research identify purify bioactive compounds determine molecular mechanisms action needed.
