Apple Scab Management Options for High-Inoculum Orchards
Apple scab emerged as an expensive problem in apple orchards throughout the Northeastern United States in 2009. Experienced growers who had managed scab effectively for many years found themselves spray ing throughout summer to control scab that kept appearing on new leaves. Th e effort required to protect fruit from scab during summer increased production costs and represents a “loss” to apple...
متن کاملNear infrared hyperspectral dataset of healthy and infected apple tree leaves images for the early detection of apple scab disease
This dataset presents two series of hyperspectral images of healthy and infected apple tree leaves acquired daily, from two days after inoculation until an advanced stage of infection (11 days after inoculation). The hyperspectral images were calibrated by reflection correction and registered to match the geometry of one reference image. On the last experiment day, scab positions are provided.
متن کاملOn the Origin and Spread of the Scab Disease of Apple: Out of Central Asia
BACKGROUND Venturia inaequalis is an ascomycete fungus responsible for apple scab, a disease that has invaded almost all apple growing regions worldwide, with the corresponding adverse effects on apple production. Monitoring and predicting the effectiveness of intervention strategies require knowledge of the origin, introduction pathways, and population biology of pathogen populations. Analysis...
متن کاملAn Assessment of the Durability and Susceptibility of Scab Resistance in Apple Cultivars
Durable resistance to scab (Venturia inaequalis) of newly introduced cultivars is needed to achieve a considerable reduction of pesticide use. However, the assessment in the field on the level and durability of scab resistance is time and space consuming. A proper and fast indoor test should be a convenient tool to discard cultivars with a limited level of resistance at an early stage. As a res...
متن کاملDe Novo Transcriptome Sequencing and Analysis for Venturia inaequalis, the Devastating Apple Scab Pathogen
Venturia inaequalis is the causal agent of apple scab, one of the most devastating diseases of apple. Due to several distinct features, it has emerged as a model fungal pathogen to study various aspects of hemibiotrophic plant pathogen interactions. The present study reports de novo assembling, annotation and characterization of the transcriptome of V. inaequalis. Venturia transcripts expressed...
