The absolute heat capacity of polymer grafted nanoparticles using fast scanning calorimetry*

The absolute heat capacity of a matrix-free polystyrene grafted silica nanocomposite system is investigated using ultrafast Flash differential scanning calorimetry (Flash DSC) and compared to results for neat sample similar molecular weight. the polymer in 8% lower than that polystyrene. In addition, step change at glass transition Tg 15% lower, indicating 2 nm-thick immobile layer around nanoparticles. There neither an increase towards material nor any additional ∆Cp steps, glassy nanoparticles remains up 300°C. addition analysis capacity, dynamic temperature gradient DSC increases linearly with increasing rate measurement, whereas noise data reciprocal rate; optimum measurements lies between 300 1000 K/s samples studied here will depend on thickness.
