Nitroblue tetrazolium test in experimental syphilis.
The reduction of nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) by phagocytic leucocytes in peripheral blood has been examined in rabbits injected intratesticularly with Treponema pallidum, T. pallidum-free supernatant of orchitic testes, or normal rabbit testes supernatant. A significant (P less than 0.01) increase in NBT reduction was observed only in the infected animals.

The nitroblue tétrazolium (N B T ) test is most useful for the diagnosis of chronic granulomatous disease and a few other rare metabolic abnormalities of neutrophils. It may be helpful in suggesting the presence of infection when values of both percentage of N BT positive neutrophils and total number of N BT positive neutrophils are markedly increased. Each patient must be inter preted with ca...
متن کاملDoes C4 Photosynthesis Occur in Wheat Seeds?
Our recent report of new evidence for C4 photosynthesis in wheat seeds (Rangan et al., 2016) has been met with skepticism (Busch and Farquhar, 2016), maybe because this has been such a long-running controversy. Much of the confusion has been because early work did not distinguish photosynthesis in the pericarp of the seed (Fig. 1) from that in the covering glumes. Glumes, like leaves in wheat, ...
متن کاملThe nitroblue-tetrazolium test following acute myocardial infarction.
The percentage nitroblue-tetrazolium (NBT) leucocyte levels were evaluated daily in the 10 days following a first attack of coronary thrombosis. In 12 uncomplicated cases the peak increase was on the second or third day; thereafter the level declined and was below 10% by the tenth day. Three other patients did not conform to this pattern of NBT behaviour. They had experienced a second myocardia...
متن کاملChronic Granulomatous Disease and the Nttroblue Tetrazolium (nbt) Test
Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a congenital disorder characterized by severe and recurrent infections, including pneumonia and deep tissue abscesses, leading to early death from sepsis. (Curnutte and Babior 1987). Two forms of inheritance have been noted. Most cases (80-90%) show X-linked transmission, with the remaining cases being autosomal recessive. Both forms have in common a defic...
