Testing the Internal Consent Scale for Measurement Invariance Across Women and Men

چکیده

Abstract The Internal Consent Scale (ICS) was created to measure feelings associated with a person’s willingness engage in partnered sexual activity. Although previous studies using the ICS have assessed gender differences, evidence has not been provided suggest that functions similarly for women and men. Using data from an online cross-sectional survey of adults ( N = 874; 53.1% women), we subjected 25-item tests measurement invariance across gender. We found only partial tenable, which indicated direct comparisons should be interpreted caution when ICS. Therefore, gender-invariant short form. In support construct validity, this 15-item ICS–Short Form demonstrated similar associations measures consent communication as full If researchers aim compare men on internal consent, recommend Form. Cognitive interviews conducted further understand how might differentially interpret items.

The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale: Measurement and structural invariance across ratings of older adult men and women

The current study examined the measurement and structural invariance of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D; Radloff, 1977) across ratings provided by older adult men (n = 573) and women (n = 605). Ratings were modeled in terms of the original four-factor oblique model: a simple structure with correlated factors for Depressed Affect, Positive Affect, Somatic Symptoms,...

Testing measurement invariance across groups : Applications in cross - cultural research

Researchers often compare groups of individuals on psychological variables. When comparing groups an assumption is made that the instrument measures the same psychological construct in all groups. If this assumption holds, the comparisons are valid and differences/similarities between groups can be meaningfully interpreted. If this assumption does not hold, comparisons and interpretations are n...

Evidence for the Body Appreciation Scale's measurement equivalence/invariance between U.S. college women and men.

Considered a measure of positive body image, the Body Appreciation Scale (BAS; Avalos et al., 2005) assesses acceptance of, favorable opinions toward, and respect for the body. Although the BAS was originally developed for and psychometrically examined with women, researchers are administering it to men and making gender comparisons. However, tests of measurement equivalence/invariance are need...

A checklist for testing measurement invariance

The analysis of measurement invariance of latent constructs is important in research across groups, or across time. By establishing whether factor loadings, intercepts and residual variances are equivalent in a factor model that measures a latent concept, we can assure that comparisons that are made on the latent variable are valid across groups or time. Establishing measurement invariance invo...

The Career Satisfaction Scale in Context: A Test for Measurement Invariance Across Four Occupational Groups

This study analyzed the influence of the occupational context on the conceptualization of career satisfaction measured by the career satisfaction scale (CSS). In a large sample of N 1⁄4 729 highly educated professionals, a cross-occupational (i.e., physicians, economists, engineers, and teachers) measurement invariance analysis showed that the CSS was conceptualized according to occupational gr...
