Testing of stainless steel I-section columns in fire

چکیده

Although there have been significant developments in the testing, simulation and design of stainless steel structural elements at room temperature, response members fire has received significantly less attention. In particular, full-scale tests on I-section members, which are becoming increasingly widely used engineering applications to meet growing load-carrying capacity demands, currently scarce. this paper, results eight anisothermal grade 1.4301 laser-welded austenitic columns reported. Complementary initial local global geometric imperfection measurements, temperature tensile coupon column buckling also described. On basis findings from experiments, accuracy safety European standard EN 1993-1-2 recent recommendations Kucukler et al. [1] for fire, will be incorporated into upcoming version 1993-1-2, assessed. It is observed that, relative existing rules method provides more reliable ultimate strength predictions fire.

Stainless steel structures in fire

The initial material cost of structural stainless steel is about four times that of structural carbon steel, due largely to the expense of the alloying elements and the relatively low volume of production. Given broadly similar structural performance, additional areas of benefit need to be identified and exploited in order to establish stainless steel as a viable alternative material for constr...

Performance of Stiffened Slender Built up Steel I-Columns

Abstract—The present work illustrates a parametric study for the effect of stiffeners on the performance of slender built up steel Icolumns. To achieve the desired analysis, finite element technique is used to develop nonlinear three-dimensional models representing the investigated columns. The finite element program (ANSYS 13.0) is used as a calculation tool for the necessary nonlinear analysi...

Bridge Piers with Structural Fuses and Bi-Steel Columns. I: Experimental Testing

Structural fuses, easily replaceable sacrificial elements to dissipate seismic energy while preventing damage to the gravity loadresisting structural system, are proposed as part of a multicolumn accelerated bridge construction (ABC) pier concept. Different types of structural fuses are investigated to compare the effect of each on ABC bridge bents. The piers of a three span-continuous bridge p...

Stainless Steel Type 316Ti

Allegheny Ludlum Type 316Ti (UNS S31635) is a titanium stabilized version of Type 316 molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel. It is also known as DIN/EN designation No. 1.4571. The Type 316 alloys are more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion than the conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels such as Type 304. They also offer higher creep, stress-ru...

Experimental Study on the Fire Performance of Tubular Steel Columns with Membrane Protections for Prefabricated and Modular Steel Construction

Experimental research was conducted to study the fire resistance of steel tubular columns used in prefabricated and modular construction. In order to achieve high-efficient prefabrication and fast on-site installation, membrane protections using board products and thermal insulation blankets are adopted as the favorable protection method. Three protected tubular columns were tested in a full-sc...
