چکیده
Waterlogged archaeological wood can provide information on past human activities and technology but its structure may be modified due to microbial deterioration. Knowing conservation state is fundamental for restoration. Aim of this work was test the use non-destructive portable NMR microstructural characterization preservation three samples (Roman age, 5th century AD). 1D T1 T2 relaxation time distributions, as well 2D T1-T2 D-T2 distributions were measured by single-sided interpreted with help high resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) optical microscopy. Due complexity ancient samples, in first study a multi-analytical approach required. It allowed both waterlogged softwood (spruce) hardwood (chestnut maple) quantifying times diffusion water components affected presence degradation products such fungi, paramagnetic agents, changes. Optical microscopy needed investigate sub-microscopic elements not resolved MRI validate indirect investigations. Observations results will allow improvement protocols analyses situ NMR.

Single-scan 2D Hadamard NMR spectroscopy.
Scan and deliver: By combining imaging-based spectral/spatial 2D radiofrequency manipulations (see scheme, left) with Hadamard-weighting principles, 2D NMR spectra can be retrieved within a single scan (right). This approach can give homo- or heteronuclear correlations with an enhanced sensitivity over conventional ultrafast 2D NMR spectroscopy.

Spatial encoding is a particular kind of spin manipulation that enables the acquisition of multidimensional NMR spectra within a single scan. This encoding has been shown to possess a general applicability and to enable the completion of arbitrary nD NMR acquisitions within a single transient. The present study explores its potential towards the acquisition of 2D DOSY spectra, where the indirec...
متن کاملUltrafast Multidimensional Laplace NMR Using a Single-Sided Magnet.
Laplace NMR (LNMR) consists of relaxation and diffusion measurements providing detailed information about molecular motion and interaction. Here we demonstrate that ultrafast single- and multidimensional LNMR experiments, based on spatial encoding, are viable with low-field, single-sided magnets with an inhomogeneous magnetic field. This approach shortens the experiment time by one to two order...
متن کاملHigh-resolution NMR spectroscopy with a portable single-sided sensor.
We report construction of a portable nuclear magnetic resonance sensor with a single-sided open probe design. The resulting magnetic field inhomogeneity is compensated by a pulse sequence that takes advantage of parallel inhomogeneity in the applied radio frequency field. We can thereby acquire fluorine-19 spectra of liquid fluorocarbons with 8 parts per million resolution, surmounting the long...
متن کاملStudy of aging in oil paintings by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy.
Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy is proposed as an efficient analytical tool in the study of painted artworks. The binding medium from two original oil paintings, dated from the early 20th and the late 17th century, was studied via high-resolution 1D and 2D NMR, establishing the advanced state of hydrolysis and oxidation of the oil paint. Studies of the solvent-extractable component from...
