Testicular Histomorphology Following Datura Stramonium Administration in Adult Male Wistar Rats

Background: Datura contains a mixture of anticholinergic agents (alkaloids such as atropine, scopolamine and hyoscyamine) that are responsible for its pharmacological actions. The objective was to evaluate the effect stramonium in testes wistar rats. Methods: Twenty (20) adult male rats weight ranging from 106g-180g were distributed into five groups (A-E) four (4) animals each. Animals administered with extract once daily 21 days Group A- 50mg/kg, B -100 mg/kg, C -200 mg/kg ,Group D -400 mg/kg. While, E given distilled water daily. Testes blood samples collected all groups, histological biochemical activities. Result: Results showed overall, increase body siginificant differences sperm count treatment groups. Administration high dose found have adverse on findings testes. Extract plant is toxic since single extraction shows presence scopolamine. Abuse flower pose cholinergic poisoning due scopolamine, significantly reduces fertility evidenced by number abnormal motility altered testicular morphology.
