Exceptionally tough and notch-insensitive magnetic hydrogels.
Most existing magnetic hydrogels are weak and brittle. The development of strong and tough magnetic hydrogels would extend their applications into uncultivated areas, such as in actuators for soft machines and guided catheters for magnetic navigation systems, which is still a big challenge. Here a facile and versatile approach to fabricating highly stretchable, exceptionally tough and notch-ins...
متن کاملScatter hoarding by kangaroo rats
© 1992 International Society for Behavioral Ecology We observed radio-implanted Merriam's kangaroo rats disposing of 10-g bonanzas of rolled oats in 48 trials in the field. The principal determinant of the initial disposition of discovered food was apparently its distance from the day burrow: food found within about 10m was mainly larder hoarded, whereas food encountered farther afield was usua...
متن کاملStrong tough gels for 3D tissue constructs
The mechanical characteristics of ionic-covalent entanglement hydrogels consisting of combinations of the biopolymers gellan gum and kappa-carrageenan, and the synthetic polymers polyacrylamide and an epoxy amine were investigated. Compression testing showed that these gels exhibited "double network" behavior, i.e. strong tough gels.
متن کاملOrthogonal-Ordering Constraints are Tough
We show that rectilinear graph drawing, the core problem of bendminimum orthogonal graph drawing, and uniform edge-length drawing, the core problem of force-directed placement, are NP-hard even for embedded paths if subjected to orthogonal-ordering constraints. متن کاملtendOns: biOmechanical study in rats
Surgical treatment for tendon injuries can be done using several repair techniques, but they always involve placement of suture material. The arrangement of the suture needs to maintain the apposition of the tendon stumps, preferably under conditions of movement. During the healing process, the suture thread should cause minimal tissue reaction and should have sufficient resistance to traction ...
