Abstract Amongst young people in Freetown, ‘Temple Run’, a mobile phone game that requires the player to run for their life across treacherous obstacles, is used as code perilous journey an increasing number of Sierra Leoneans made Europe via Libya. Through ethnographic accounts, article discusses role dreams migration Freetown youths’ articulations distinctive political imagination through which they at once critique and re-imagine relation state assert identity expectations Leonean citizens. These narratives are rooted everyday experiences neglect violence but also embody long history region intersections between migration, insecurity, contestations power. Exploring discourse, separate from practice, paper shows how imageries become incorporated into expressions presence rather than simply longings absence normative ideas citizenship.
