Temperature effect on erosion-induced disturbances to soil organic carbon cycling

چکیده
Erosion exerts control on soil organic carbon (SOC) and both erosion SOC are affected by climate. To what extent temperature controls the coupling between these erosion–C interactions remains unclear. Using 137Cs inventories from catchments spanning different climates, we find that increasing decomposition rates with result in efficient replacement of laterally lost eroding areas but lower preservation deposited depositional areas. When combined at landscape level, erosion-induced C sink strength per unit lateral flux increases 0.19 g (g C)−1 0 °C to 0.24 25 °C. We estimated global 0.050 Pg yr−1 induced water croplands 7% because climate change. Our results reveal a negative feedback loop change disturbance cycling. The authors demonstrate interacting impacts warming Under warming, they project increased SOC, an overall increase erosion.

The Effect of Land use and Soil Erosion on Soil Organic Carbon and Nitrogen Stock
Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a principal component in soil quality assessment. Knowledge of SOC and total nitrogen (TN) stocks are important keys to understand the role of SOC in the global carbon cycle and, as a result, in the mitigation of global greenhouse effects. SOC and TN stocks are functions of the SOC concentration and the bulk density of the soil that are prone to changes, influe...
متن کاملEffect of EU's Common Agricultural Policies on Erosion and Soil Organic Carbon Balance, Italy
Soils are the third largest global reservoir of carbon and the largest terrestrial ecosystem sink or source of atmospheric CO2 depending on land-use and management. The French authorities ahead of COP21 proposed the ‘four per mil’ initiative aimed at offsetting most global agricultural CO2 emissions by increasing global soil organic carbon (SOC). Since, the Common Agricultural Policies (CAP) re...

متن کاملComposition and Cycling of Organic Carbon in Soil
Soil organic carbon (SOC) represents a significant reservoir of carbon within the global carbon cycle that has been estimated to account for 1,200–1,550 Pg C to a depth of 1 m and for 2370–2450 Pg C to a depth of 2 m (Eswaran et al. 1995; Lal 2004a). Comparative estimates of organic C contained in living biomass (560 Pg) and atmospheric CO2-C (760 Pg) (Lal 2004a) indicate that variations in the...
متن کاملDynamics of Soil Organic Carbon and Microbial Biomass Carbon in Relation to Water Erosion and Tillage Erosion
Dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) are associated with soil erosion, yet there is a shortage of research concerning the relationship between soil erosion, SOC, and especially microbial biomass carbon (MBC). In this paper, we selected two typical slope landscapes including gentle and steep slopes from the Sichuan Basin, China, and used the (137)Cs technique to determine the effects of water e...
