چکیده
In this paper we investigate the temperature dependent behavior of a liquid crystal (LC) loaded tunable dielectric image guide (DIG) phase shifter at millimeter-wave frequencies from 80 GHz to 110 for future high data rate communications. The adhesive, necessary precise fabrication, is analyzed before component shown, using nematic LC-mixture GT7-29001. characterization conducted by changing LC DIG’s ground plane between −10∘C and ∘C. orientation molecules, therefore effective macroscopic relative permittivity DIG, changed inserting setup in fixture with rotatable magnets. Temperature independent matching can be observed, while insertion loss gradually increases both highest lowest LC. At ∘C up 1.3dB higher it 0.6dB lower than present 20 addition, achievable differential reduced increasing temperature. impact molecule alignment reduction shown an estimated 85% anisotropy still usable DIG when Higher as electrical length increases. A maximum difference 72∘ GHz, Nevertheless, well predictable, quasi-linear observed covered range, highlighting potential LC-based components millimeter wave frequencies.

Temperature Tunability of Dielectric/ Liquid Crystal / Dielectric Photonic Crystal Structures
Recently, photonic crystals doped with liquid crystal (LC) material havegained much research interest. In this article new ternary one-dimensional photoniccrystal introduced and studied. The liquid crystal layer of 5CB and 5PCH is sandwichedby two dielectric layers. For the first time, we use four structures SiO2/UCF35/CaF2,SiO2/5CB/CaF2, NFK51/UCF35/NPSK53 and NFK51/5CB/NPSK53. The effect ofte...
متن کاملTunable millimeter-wave phase shifter based on dielectric elastomer actuation
A very low-loss tunable millimeter-wave phase shifter driven by dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) is presented. The device consists of a fixed coplanar waveguide (CPW) and two metallic loading strips suspended on an elastomer membrane. The horizontal offset between the CPW and the strips is dynamically controlled by integrated DEAs. The variable interaction between the CPW and the loading s...

متن کاملVoltage-controlled liquid-crystal terahertz phase shifter and quarter-wave plate.
Phase shift exceeding tau/2 at 1 THz is demonstrated by using electrically controlled birefringence in a homeotropically aligned nematic liquid crystal (E7) cell, 570 microm in thickness. The driving voltage required for a phase shift of 90 degrees is 125 V (rms). We demonstrate that the phase shifter works as an electrically switchable quarter-wave plate at 1 THz. The device can also be used a...
