Temperature and Prey Species Richness Drive the Broad-Scale Distribution of a Generalist Predator

چکیده
The ongoing climate change and the unprecedented rate of biodiversity loss render need to accurately project future species distributional patterns more critical than ever. Mounting evidence suggests that not only abiotic factors, but also biotic interactions drive broad-scale patterns. Here, we explored effect predator-prey interaction on predator distribution, using as target widespread generalist grass snake (Natrix natrix). We used ensemble Species Distribution Modeling (SDM) build a model with variables (abiotic model) one including prey richness. Then projected distribution modest emission scenario assuming an unhindered no dispersal scenario. two models performed equally well, temperature richness emerging top drivers in models, respectively. In future, severe range contraction is anticipated case dispersal, likely possibility reptiles are poor dispersers. If can disperse freely, improbable due habitat fragmentation, it will lose part its contemporary expand northwards.

Energy, water, and broad-scale geographic patterns of species richness
It is often claimed that we do not understand the forces driving the global diversity gradient. However, an extensive literature suggests that contemporary climate constrains terrestrial taxonomic richness over broad geographic extents. Here, we review the empirical literature to examine the nature and form of the relationship between climate and richness. Our goals were to document the support...
متن کاملThe Dynamical Analysis of a Delayed Prey-Predator Model with a Refuge-Stage Structure Prey Population
A mathematical model describing the dynamics of a delayed stage structure prey - predator system with prey refuge is considered. The existence, uniqueness and bounded- ness of the solution are discussed. All the feasibl e equilibrium points are determined. The stability analysis of them are investigated. By employ ing the time delay as the bifurcation parame...
متن کاملEffects of predator richness on prey suppression: a meta-analysis.
It is well established that species richness of primary producers and primary consumers can enhance efficiency of resource uptake and biomass production of respective trophic levels. At the level of secondary consumers (predators), however, conclusions about the functional role of biodiversity have been mixed. We take advantage of a recent surge of published experiments (totaling 46 since 2005)...
متن کاملWeather Conditions Drive Dynamic Habitat Selection in a Generalist Predator
Despite the dynamic nature of habitat selection, temporal variation as arising from factors such as weather are rarely quantified in species-habitat relationships. We analysed habitat use and selection (use/availability) of foraging, radio-tagged little owls (Athene noctua), a nocturnal, year-round resident generalist predator, to see how this varied as a function of weather, season and availab...
متن کاملThe Lotka-Volterra Predator-Prey Equations
One may find out the application of mathematics in the areas of ecology, biology, environmental sciences etc. Mathematics is particulary used in the problem of predator-prey known as lotka-Volterra predator-prey equations. Indeed, differential equations is employed very much in many areas of other sciences. However, most of natural problems involve some unknown functions...
