Technological Catch-up to the National and Regional Frontier: Firm-level Evidence for India

This paper studies productivity convergence to the regional and national frontiers among manufacturing firms in India, using panel data over period 1999 2010. We find evidence that lagging converge their frontiers, with faster speed of frontier than frontier. extend our analysis explore how firms’ participation foreign markets (through exporting investing abroad) affects process convergence. Our results suggest a ranking based on level international engagement through exports, non-exporters converging technological followed by non-continuous exporters, finally continuous exporters. These more established exporters are closer therefore have less scope catch up persistent counterparts non-exporting firms. However, we did not significant differences amongst moved next stage globalisation abroad.
