Techno environmental assessment of Flettner rotor as assistance propulsion system for LH2 tanker ship fuelled by hydrogen

This study presents a novel design and development of 280,000 m3 liquefied hydrogen tanker ship by implementing set 6 Flettner rotors as an assistance propulsion system in conjunction with combined-cycle gas turbine fuelled prime mover. The includes assessment the technical environmental aspects developed design. Furthermore, established method was applied to simulate LH2 different voyages conditions investigate benefits harnessing wind energy assist terms performance emission reduction based on engine behaviour for under loaded unloaded, normal well % degraded engine, varying ambient conditions. results indicate that has potential positively impact lead benefits. A maximum contribution power around 1.8 MW achieved winter season owing high speed favourable direction. could save approximately 3.6 total output (50 MW) cause 3.5 NOx emissions.
