Techno-economic feasibility analysis of a 3-kW PV system installation in Nepal

Abstract This study investigates the techno-economic feasibility of installing a 3-kilowatt-peak (kWp) photovoltaic (PV) system in Kathmandu, Nepal. The also analyses importance scaling up share solar energy to contribute country's overall generation mix. technical viability designed PV is assessed using PVsyst and Meteonorm simulation software. performance indicators adopted our are electric output, ratio, economic returns including levelised cost net present value production. key parameters used simulations site-specific meteorological data, irradiance, capacity factor, price electricity. achieved efficiency ratio 17% 84%, respectively. demand–supply gap has been estimated assuming load profile typical household Kathmandu under enhanced use appliances. Our results show that 3-kWp can generate 100% electricity consumed by residential Kathmandu. calculated for considered 0.06 $/kWh, corresponding rate investment 87%. payback period be 8.6 years. installation could save 10.33 tons CO 2 emission over its lifetime. Overall, systems with 3 kWp appear viable solution secure sufficient amount most households city.
