Technical Efficiency and Technological Gaps of Rice Production in Anambra State, Nigeria

چکیده
The traditional approach to modeling productive efficiency assumes that technology is constant across the sample. However, farms in different regions may face production opportunities, and technologies they employ differ due environmental factors. Therefore, rather than using a stochastic frontier model such cases, meta-frontier (SMF) analysis recommended account for factors between regions. It follows differences upland lowland Anambra State, Nigeria, result farmers producing rice under conditions. Using SMF model, this study, first time, determines technical (TE) technological gap ratios (TGRs) of from Awka North Local Government Area Nigeria. Our data are cross-section sample randomly selected farmers. Results reveal regional producers on average, significantly more technically efficient (91.7%) their counterparts (84.2%). Additionally, mean TGRs associated with higher (92.1%) corresponding (84.7%). While less further away full potential, results indicate both sets do not use advanced match industry’s potential. We suggest agricultural policy should focus providing regionally specific technologies, as improved varieties fit working environment lagging area, help improve resource minimize gaps.

Since the mid-1970s, rice consumption in Nigeria has risen tremendously at about 10% per annum due to changes in consumer preference. Most public and private sector interventions programmes at increasing the productive capacities of various factors within the system notwithstanding, domestic production has not been able to meet the local demand leading to considerable import, which today stood ...

A survey of industrial pollution was carried out in Anambra State of Nigeria between February 1992 and June 1993. The survey showed that Idemili, Onitsha and Nnewi Local Government Areas have the greatest concentration of industries in the state and stand a high risk of industrial pollution unless steps are taken to put the issue of waste disposal under strick check. Some of the industries in t...

The technical efficiency involved in cocoa production in Cross River State was estimated using the stochastic frontier production function analysis. The effects of some selected socio- economic characteristics of the farmers on the efficiency indices were also estimated. The study relied upon primary data generated from interviewing cocoa farmers using a set of structured questionnaire. A multi...
