Tea–Essential Oil–Metal Hybrid Nanocoatings for Bacterial and Viral Inactivation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Natural plant-derived antimicrobial nanocoatings have been synthesized by mixing brewed tea with cinnamaldehyde oil. Concurrent addition of copper or silver salts produces hybrid tea-cinnamaldehyde-copper tea-cinnamaldehyde-silver nanocoatings, respectively. Tea-cinnamaldehyde, tea-cinnamaldehyde-copper, and coatings are all found to display strong antibacterial efficacy against both Gram-negative Escherichia coli Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (Log10 Reduction = 8.44 7.90, respectively). Tea-cinnamaldehyde-copper deposited onto nonwoven polypropylene provide 98.6 99.8% deactivation, respectively, toward murine coronavirus MHV-A59 (a potential surrogate for COVID-19 global pandemic SARS-CoV-2). Key advantages this approach that the coating fabrication involves just a single step, utilizes cheap reagents (which widely available over counter general public), does not require any equipment apart from container, spontaneously adhere variety substrate materials (including silicon, glass, polyester, polypropylene, poly(tetrafluoroethylene), cotton). Tea is one most ubiquitous beverages in world, meaning these could be produced locally almost anywhere anyone without need specialized technical training expertize (for example, at remote field hospitals during humanitarian crises low-income countries). © 2021 The Authors. A Spinal Fluid Scoring System for Differentiation of Bacterial and Viral Meningitis
To develop such a system, a retrospective study was performed on patients with meningitis admitted at three major pediatric hospitals during a ten-year period. In this study, important cerebrospinal fluid ( CSF) indices were measured and compared in cases of bacterial and viral meningitis. Glucose, protein and white blood cells (WBCs) were analyzed in 609 patients with meningitis and scores wer...
متن کاملCold plasma for bacterial inactivation
Non thermal plasmas had been used for many years for different applications. Plasma is a cocktail of reactive oxygen species, negative species, radicals etc. This mixture has a positive effect also in killing bacteria. This fact is highly important in applications like disinfection of burned wounds where large skin areas need to be cleaned before the treatment. In this work we studied in vitro ...
متن کاملNew evidence for hybrid acrylic/TiO2 films inducing bacterial inactivation under low intensity simulated sunlight.
This study addresses the preparation and characterization of hybrid films prepared from Titanium dioxide (TiO2) Pickering stabilized acrylic polymeric dispersion as well as their bacterial inactivation efficiency under sunlight irradiation. Complete bacterial inactivation under low intensity simulated solar light irradiation (55 mW/cm(2)) was observed within 240 min for the films containing 10 ...
متن کاملA mathematical model for bacterial inactivation.
The first order kinetic model, the Buchanan model and Cerf's model, can model a linear survival curve, a survival curve with a shoulder and a survival curve with a tailing, respectively. However, they are not suitable for fitting a sigmoidal survival curve. The three models were integrated into a new model that was capable of fitting the four most commonly observed survival curves: linear curve...
متن کاملAcute bacterial and viral meningitis.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Most cases of acute meningitis are infectious and result from a potentially wide range of bacterial and viral pathogens. The organized approach to the patient with suspected meningitis enables the prompt administration of antibiotics, possibly corticosteroids, and diagnostic testing with neuroimaging and spinal fluid analysis. RECENT FINDINGS Acute meningitis is infectious i...
