Teaching English for Legal Purposes to Undergraduate Translation Majors

To enable students majoring in translation at the College of Languages and Translation to read, identify lexical syntactic features legal documents hence comprehend their content, this article proposes an instructional module for teaching English Legal Purposes (ELP). The should be based on assessment students’ proficiency level analysis academic professional need. It consists most common terms such as (alias, amicus, peosequi, res judicata, puisine, puis ne, estoppel fee, simple laches, quash); grammatical structures use long complex sentences, conditional clauses, adverbial clusters, complicated nominal groups, modal auxiliary shall, French word order (court martial, heir apparent, secretary general); reading insurance policies, wills, statutes, contracts agreements between individuals, leases, petitions, investigations...etc. Global themes are integrated practice material. listening, speaking, reading, writing translation. They learn context (through text). instructor performs text analysis. Together with students, she goes through a text, locates structures, explains and/or translates them. Then perform new texts. Numerous technologies can into learning ELP. Assignments posted Blackboard LMS, blog or social media page. At end period, tested, ELP is evaluated by instructors. recommends that student-centered. have active role process where they select topics talk, write about translate.
