Teacher Trainees' Experiences of the Components of ICT Competencies and Key Factors in ICT Competence Development in Work-Based Vocational Teacher Training in Finland

Context: This research was conducted in the context of Finnish vocational education and training (VET) teacher training. The work-based, meaning that each trainee already working as an unqualified VET teacher. Workplaces were comprehensively utilised learning environment, with support also being provided form contact days, webinars, online activities. Approach: We aimed to explore main components information communications technology (ICT) competencies among trainees within work-based reveal supportive challenging factors related developing ICT Overall, 44 participated our study. data analysed via qualitative content analysis. Findings: Six competence identified during training: (1) use creation digital materials, (2) planning environments, (3) synchronous digitally enhanced teaching, (4) general competencies, (5) interaction, (6) assessment. development teachers' supported by their own active experimenting software ideas presented staff. Challenging included continuous feeling haste lack time workplace, well failure recognise prior could limit competencies.Conclusions: Work-based has potential develop trainees' because it allows immediate implementation experimentation regard new tools. By aligning this research, is possible construct a comprehensive framework workplace development.
