Taylor‐vortex membrane reactor for continuous gas‐liquid reactions

A unique Taylor-vortex membrane reactor (TVMR) design for continuous gas-liquid reactions is presented in this work. The consists of a cylindrical rotor inside stationary concentric vessel, and flexible system equispaced baffle rings surrounding the rotor. This restricts annular cross section to small gap between baffles rotor, divides annulus into 18 mixing zones. support 6 m long PFA tubular that woven around At 4 mL/min inlet flow rate, TVMR showed plug-flow behavior outperformed unbaffled reactor, having 5–12 times lower axial dispersion. aerobic oxidation benzyl alcohol was performed 7 h using Pd(OAc)2/pyridine catalyst toluene at 100 °C 1.1 MPa oxygen pressure. stable conversion 30% achieved with 85% benzaldehyde selectivity, no pervaporation organics gas phase.
