Tastes for discrimination in monopsonistic labour markets

This paper presents a model where wage differences between men and women arise from taste-based discrimination, monopsonistic mechanisms gender in compensating differentials. We show how preferences against affect heterogeneity firms’ pay policies the context of an imperfect labour market with non-wage amenities, deriving test for presence discrimination These results inform analysis sex Italian manufacturing sector, which shows that workplaces providing more flexible schedules are significant determinant gap.
