Targeting river operations to the critical thermal window of fish incubation: Model and case study on Sacramento River winter‐run Chinook salmon

چکیده
Allocating reservoir flows to meet societal and ecosystem needs under increasing water demands climatic variability presents challenges resource managers. Often, rivers have been regulated flow temperature compliance points or mimic historical patterns. Because it is difficult assess if this approach efficient, process-based models are being used design river operations. This paper describes a model for fish incubation survival based on the premise that mortality from thermal stress occurs over critical window (CW) of embryo development. A CW metabolic studies development combined with density-dependent background mortalities describe salmonid egg fertilization fry detection downstream. The calibrated two-decade dataset Sacramento River winter-run Chinook salmon egg-to-fry survival. effects exposure range CWs were explored. Based statistical biological support, two alternative identified control: entire period short duration prior hatching. Survival different assumptions control operations simulated an internet-accessible form model. analysis indicated years limited cold-water resources, targeting releases hatching would yield highest

15 صفحه اولMajor histocompatibility complex differentiation in Sacramento River chinook salmon.
The chinook salmon of the Sacramento River, California, have been reduced to a fraction of their former abundance because of human impact and use of the river system. Here we examine the genetic variation at a major histocompatibility complex class II exon in the four Sacramento chinook salmon runs. Examination of the alleles found in these and other chinook salmon revealed nucleotide patterns ...
متن کاملLosses of Sacramento River Chinook Salmon and Delta Smelt to Entrainment in Water Diversions in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
Pumping at the water export facilities in the southern Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta kills fish at and near the associated fish-salvage facilities. Correlative analyses of salvage counts with population indices have failed to provide quantitative estimates of the magnitude of this mortality. I estimated the proportional losses of Sacramento River Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) and del...
متن کاملModeling the Survival of Chinook Salmon Smolts Outmigrating Through the Lower Sacramento River System
To study the factors associated with the freshwater mortality of outmigrating chinook salmon, releases of tagged juvenile salmon were made at multiple locations in the Sacramento River each spring between the years 1979 and 1995. A midwater trawl located downstream of the release sites caught salmon soon after release and, 1 to 4 years later, samples taken from the catches of marine fisheries r...
متن کاملa study on insurer solvency by panel data model: the case of iranian insurance market
the aim of this thesis is an approach for assessing insurer’s solvency for iranian insurance companies. we use of economic data with both time series and cross-sectional variation, thus by using the panel data model will survey the insurer solvency.
