Targeting Autophagy to Counteract Obesity-Associated Oxidative Stress

چکیده
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) operate as key regulators of cellular homeostasis within a physiological range concentrations, yet they turn into cytotoxic entities when their levels exceed threshold limit. Accordingly, ROS are an important etiological cue for obesity, which in represents major risk factor multiple diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and cancer. Therefore, the implementation novel therapeutic strategies to improve obese phenotype by targeting oxidative stress is great interest scientific community. To this end, it high importance shed light on mechanisms through cells curtail production or limit toxic effects, order harness them anti-obesity therapy. In review, we specifically discuss role autophagy redox biology, focusing its implication pathogenesis obesity. Because triggered response imbalance quintessential cytoprotective mechanism, maneuvers based activation hold promises efficacy prevention treatment obesity obesity-related morbidities.

Obesity represents a major risk factor for a plethora of severe diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and cancer. It is often accompanied by an increased risk of mortality and, in the case of non-fatal health problems, the quality of life is impaired because of associated conditions, including sleep apnea, respiratory problems, osteoarthritis, ...
متن کاملAutophagy protects ovarian cancer-associated fibroblasts against oxidative stress
RNA-Seq and gene set enrichment anylysis revealed that ovarian cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are mitotically active compared with normal fibroblasts (NFs). Cellular senescence is observed in CAFs treated with H2O2 as shown by elevated SA-β-gal activity and p21 (WAF1/Cip1) protein levels. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and p21 (WAF1/Cip1) elevation may account for H2O2-induced C...
متن کاملTargeting oxidative stress to reduce osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the commonest chronic disease, with an estimated 9.6 % of men and 18.0 % of women aged over 60 years having symptomatic OA according to the World Health Organisation. Despite this prevalence, no therapies to slow disease progression are currently available. Oxidative stress has been described as an important factor in various diseases, and more recently in OA. Evidence fo...

Introduction: Hepcidin is the principal modulator of systemic iron metabolism, and its role in the brain has been clarified recently. Studies have shown hepcidin plays an important role for in neuronal iron load and inflammation. This is of significance because neuronal iron load and inflammation are pathophysiological processes that have been highly linked to neurodegeneration. Moreover, the a...
متن کاملInflammation, Oxidative Stress, and Obesity
Obesity is a chronic disease of multifactorial origin and can be defined as an increase in the accumulation of body fat. Adipose tissue is not only a triglyceride storage organ, but studies have shown the role of white adipose tissue as a producer of certain bioactive substances called adipokines. Among adipokines, we find some inflammatory functions, such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6); other adipoki...
