Tap Water Quality Degradation in an Intermittent Water Supply Area

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Decentralized tap water systems are an important drinking source worldwide. A good quality, high-pressure continuous supply (CWS) is always the target of any urban settlement. However, in some areas reported with deteriorated quality even though treated well before supplying. Such deterioration widely from low availability and economically poor countries where supplied intermittently (IWS). This study focuses identifying IWS causes degradation using nitrate-nitrogen (NO 3 -N) as indicator stable isotopes hydrogen (δD) tracer. Nine reservoirs ninety municipal (ten per reservoir) samples were collected during wet (June–September) dry (November–February) seasons Kathmandu Valley (KV), Nepal. Ten percent exhibited higher NO -N than those their respective season, while 16% concentrations season. Similarly, isotopic signatures 3% 23% seasons, respectively. Coupling analysis between δD demonstrates close connection groundwater water. The results indicate intrusion primary component controlling variations within same distribution networks IWS. Meanwhile, obtained also probable KV usefulness a tool assessment systems.

Mineral water or tap water? An endless debate.

The consumption of mineral water has been increasing because of the frequent and unjustified reports of the water supply contamination. However some authors have shown that bottled waters are not always better than tap water. Mineral waters are more palatable for organoleptic characteristic because, being pure at source, they do not undergo disinfection treatments and are sometimes enriched wit...

Analysis of Bacterial Contaminant in Pasir Gudang, Johor Tap Water Supply–Varies pH Value Observation

The number of breakthrough pathogenic activity in water distribution network system is constantly increasing day by day especially at level of consumption. Bacterial growth or survival rate often relates to acidity and alkalinity of water. Sudden changes in pH value and temperature indicates a possibility of present bacterial contaminant in aqueous environment. The observation of pH- and temper...

Assessment of water supply system and water quality of Lighvan village using water safety plan

Background: Continuous expansion of potable water pollution sources is one of the main concerns of water suppliers, therefore measures such as water safety plan (WSP), have been taken into account to control these sources of pollution. The aim of this study was to identify probable risks and threatening hazards to drinking water quality in Lighvan village along with assessment of bank filtratio...

Optimizing Intermittent Water Supply in Urban Pipe Distribution Networks

In many urban areas of the developing world, piped water is supplied only intermittently, as valves direct water to different parts of the water distribution system at different times. The flow is transient, and may transition between free-surface and pressurized, resulting in complex dynamical features with important consequences for water suppliers and users. Here, we develop a computational ...

Tap water tempest

You know the news isn’t going to be good when the report of a new study cites sources in City Hall rather than the scientific literature. That’s exactly how the story broke in February, reporting a link between tap water and miscarriages in a California study. On February 10, the Los Angeles Times warned its readers in a front page report that “drinking five or more glasses of cold tap water pe...
