چکیده
Thermo-mechanical densification modifies wood to produce a more dense and resistant lignocellulosic material may degrade extractives that contribute the increased susceptibility of attack by xylophagous organisms. This study evaluated efficiency tannin extracts Acacia mearnsii in treatment thermo-mechanical densified pine relation physical, mechanical, biological resistance (Cryptotermes brevis) properties. Pinus elliottii samples were pretreated with oxalic acid Parr reactor, then treated diffusion solutions at concentrations 5, 10, 15%, finally hot pressed. The apparent density modified was 87.8% greater than natura (control) tannins 15%. mechanical strength increased, especially parallel compressive strength, which had an average increase 169% for 10 compared wood. There termite mortality reduction damage 15% tannins, obtaining best results physical parameters. Thermal preserved proved be potential alternative as high performance material.

Polymeric Betaine as a Wood Preservative
Didecyl polyoxyethyl ammonium borate (DPAB), also known as Polymeric Betaine, was developed as a co-biocide for chromium-free copper based wood preservatives in Europe in the 1980’s. This paper summarizes the properties of DPAB as a wood preservative. Unique properties related to the betaine nature of DPAB are discussed in terms of the structureproperty relationship. Physical properties of DPAB...
متن کاملEnvironmentally Friendly Wood Preservative System Based on Polymerized Tannin Resin-boric Acid for Outdoor Applications♣
Boron compounds are used as wood preservatives as they are both fungicide and insecticide, relatively inexpensive and environmentally acceptable. Nevertheless, in the field of wood protection, borates are only used for indoor non-exposed applications or in association with other biocides, due to their main disadvantage of being readily leachable from treated wood. To overcome this problem, bori...
متن کاملDensified Radiata Pine for Structural Composites
A novel wood-based composite has been developed for use in structural applications. The process was designed to utilize rapidly-grown, low density, wood species. Plantation grown radiata pine is particularly well suited to this process. This is a laminated composite, where the lamina may be comprised of various materials, some of which have been treated with the viscoelastic thermal compression...
متن کاملTannic extract potential as natural wood preservative of Acacia mearnsii.
High toxicity of the preservatives most frequently used in wood treatment and the resulting risks of handling pose a threat to small producers and to the environment. In an attempt to mitigate these problems, the present study was conducted with the objective of evaluating the preservative effect of tannic extract on biodeterioration of Acacia mearnsii wood. For this purpose, untreated and pres...
متن کاملModeling of wood preservative leaching in service
To evaluate the potential environmental and health implications of leaching of wood preservatives in service under different conditions, there is a need for a predictive model that provides estimates of the rate and extent of leaching over a wide range of exposure conditions. In this paper, we test the hypothesis that preservative component emissions can be modeled on the basis of three easily ...
