Talking about trees, scope and concepts
Language can be ambiguous at all levels – at the level of the word, of the phrase, of the sentence, as well as of the text or dialogue. The source of ambiguity is often lexical or morphological, but ambiguities also emerge when passing from one level of linguistic analysis – morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics – to another. This transition from one level of representation to another can, ...
متن کاملD-Theory: Talking about Talking about Trees
Linguists, including computational linguists, have always been fond of talking about trees. In this paper, we outline a theory of linguistic structure which talks about talking about trees; we call this theory Description theory (D-theory). While important issues must be resolved before a complete picture of D-theory emerges (and also before we can build programs which utilize it), we believe t...

Our paper represents a case study for this interaction in the domain of event semantics. We adop...
