Syphilis Co-Infection in Individuals Living with HIV: Data from Tertiary Hospitals

Objective: Our study aimed to reveal the syphilis coinfection data in patients living with HIV. In this context, on rates, period which was diagnosed, reinfection and determination of population at risk for HIV/AIDS were presented. Methods: Patients confirmed between January 2016 December 2020 a training research hospital retrospectively screened serological examinations (RPR, TPHA). The conventional diagnostic algorithm used all patients. Results: rate co-infection 23.38% (47/201) 201 individuals HIV our patient population. Of 47 HIV/syphilis co-infected included study, 4.2% female, 95.8% male. mean age 41.11±12.42 years. Primary diagnosed 6 (14.2%) patients; secondary 3 (7.1%) patients, 38 (80.8%) latent period. We did not have tertiary syphilis, neurosyphilis, or congenital syphilis. Twenty-six (55.3%) heterosexual, 17 (36.2%) men who had sex (MSM), four (8.5%) bisexual. While rates 17.9% (26/145) heterosexual individuals, it 37.5% (21/56) MSM bisexual individuals. 32 (68%) infection stage, 15 (32%) AIDS. Reinfection detected 8.51% (4/47) Conclusion: Most are male infections increasing every year country. Undetectable= Untransmissible approach causes prevention methods be thrown into background. Sexual protection barrier continues maintain its importance today due co-infections.
