چکیده

In this paper, synthetic jet actuators (SJAs) with three different orifice shapes (circular, square, and slot) the same cross-section area were investigated. The SJA efficiency (SJ) Reynolds number calculated based on time-mean reaction force measurement. momentum velocity was measured hot-wire anemometry additionally, sound pressure level (SPL) measured. equal maximally to 5.3% for each shape, but square characterized higher number. compared centerline (axial) velocities radial profile at a distance of 112 mm similar type. SPL measurement results surprisingly constant in relation other. generates lowest SPL, approximately 2.8dB lower than circular orifice, 4.2dB slot investigated real power. Finally, differences other papers limitations approach comparing orifices presented present paper indicated.

Optimization of Synthetic Jet Actuators

This paper describes the optimization of a piezoelectric-driven synthetic jet actuator based on a Lumped Element Modeling (LEM). To simplify the problem, this papers splits the optimization problem into two parts. First, a constrained optimization of the cavity volume and orifice dimensions of two baseline synthetic jets, each with a given piezoelectric diaphragm, is conducted using two differe...

On Plasma Synthetic Jet Actuators

The term plasma actuator refers to an asymmetric arrangement of two electrodes (typically rectangular strips) separated by dielectric material that can be used as active flow control devices. A plasma actuator design consisting of an annular electrode array, the plasma synthetic jet actuator (PSJA), is experimentally investigated in this paper. This particular geometry creates a zero-net mass f...

Piezoelectric Actuators for Synthetic Jet Applications

Synthetic jets have been identified and utilized widely in airflow control applications. These jets of air are usually created by the use of compressed air, or an electromechanically driven vibrating platform. All of these approaches produce desired results in airflow-control such as enhanced lift and increased maneuverability. Despite the results however, system weight, size, response time and...

A Jet Formation Criterion for Synthetic Jet Actuators

This paper proposes and validates a jet formation criterion for synthetic jet actuators. The synthetic jet is a zero net mass flux device, adding additional momentum but no mass to its surroundings. Jet formation is defined as a mean outward velocity along the jet axis and corresponds to the clear formation of shed vortices. It is shown that the synthetic jet formation is governed by the Strouh...

Some aspects of aerodynamic flow control using synthetic-jet actuation.

Aerodynamic flow control effected by interactions of surface-mounted synthetic (zero net mass flux) jet actuators with a local cross flow is reviewed. These jets are formed by the advection and interactions of trains of discrete vortical structures that are formed entirely from the fluid of the embedding flow system, and thus transfer momentum to the cross flow without net mass injection across...
