Synthetic consortium of Ganoderma lucidum and Lactobacillus plantarum for enhanced natural products biosynthesis

Microbial coculture holds immense promise for biomanufacturing. Herein, we designed a synthetic consortium of G. lucidum and L. plantarum enhanced natural product biosynthesis. The spatio-temporal alignment the strains revealed an implicit disposition transient long-term mutualistic co-existence in shared environment. assembly biomass growth were driven by intuitive toggle-switching carbon/nitrogen sources TOR signaling. Extracellular electron transfer propelled redox shuttles facilitated distribution high-energy electrons consortium's robustness. ROS-scavenging activity antioxidant enzymes maintained cells' viability via intracellular ROS removal. CAT, GPX, APX catalyzed reduction H2O2 to H2O O2, thereby protecting cells against toxic effects ROS. Small-signaling molecules stimulated biosynthesis bioactive products coculture. Over-expression target genes further ganoderic acids exopolysaccharides bioproduction system. study provides insight into physicochemical molecular forces that drive cooperative interaction stimulate planatarum consortium.
