Synthesis of amorphous magnesium silicates with different SiO2:MgO molar ratios at laboratory and pilot plant scales

In this study, amorphous magnesium silicates with different SiO2:MgO molar ratios were synthesized by a precipitation reaction from sulfate (MgSO4), sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and water. At laboratory scale, it was studied the effect of SiO2:Na2O ratio Na2SiO3 solution used as reagent on properties obtained. It observed that is key parameter in synthesis process these materials. The chemical composition principal physicochemical established, including textural nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms X-ray fluorescence. Moreover, some tests scaled-up an industrial pilot plant (ca. 103 times larger, i.e. 700 kg wet product) demonstrating high scalability materials compared to those commercial containing silicate, such Florisil® Magnesia 430®. Analogous achieved terms particle size distribution, humidity pH conductivity solution.
