Symmetry-Protected Scattering in Non-Hermitian Linear Systems

چکیده
Symmetry plays fundamental role in physics and the nature of symmetry changes non-Hermitian physics. Here symmetry-protected scattering linear systems is investigated by employing discrete symmetries that classify random matrices. The even-parity impose strict constraints on coefficients: time-reversal (C K) protect symmetric transmission or reflection; pseudo-Hermiticity (Q symmetry) inversion (P) protects reflection. For inversion-combined symmetries, features reflection interchange. odd-parity including particle-hole symmetry, chiral sublattice cannot ensure to be symmetric. These guiding principles are valid for both Hermitian systems. Our findings provide insights into ranging from condensed matter quantum optics.

Topologically Protected Defect States in Open Photonic Systems with Non-Hermitian Charge-Conjugation and Parity-Time Symmetry.
We show that topologically protected defect states can exist in open (leaky or lossy) systems even when these systems are topologically trivial in the closed limit. The states appear from within the continuum, thus in the absence of a band gap, and are generated via exceptional points (a spectral transition that occurs in open wave and quantum systems with a generalized time-reversal symmetry),...
متن کاملModified Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting methods for non-Hermitian positive-definite linear systems
Comparing the lopsided Hermitian/skew-Hermitian splitting (LHSS) method and Hermitian/skewHermitian splitting (HSS) method, a new criterion for choosing the above two methods is presented, which is better than that of Li, Huang and Liu [Modified Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting methods for nonHermitian positive-definite linear systems, Numer. Lin. Alg. Appl., 14 (2007): 217-235]. Key-Word...
متن کاملLanczos-type Solvers for Non-hermitian Linear Systems
In this overview we discuss iterative methods for solving large linear systems with sparse (or, possibly, structured) nonsymmetric (or, non-Hermitian) matrix that are based on the Lanczos process. They feature short recurrences for the generation of the Krylov space and for the sequence of approximations to the solution. This means low cost and low memory requirement. For very large sparse non-...
متن کاملOn Scattering from Localized non-Hermitian Potentials
We highlight the conceptual issues that arise when one applies the quasi-Hermitian framework to analyze scattering from localized non-Hermitian potentials, in particular complex square-wells or deltafunctions. When treated in the framework of conventional quantum mechanics, these potentials are generally considered as effective theories, in which probability is not conserved because of processe...
متن کاملScattering theory using smeared non-Hermitian potentials
Complex, non-Hermitian potentials V (x) 6= V (x) can often generate the standard, normalizable bound states ψ(x). Unfortunately, the idea [based on the use of a nonlocal ad hoc metric Θ(x, x) 6= δ(x − x) in Hilbert space] cannot directly be transferred to scattering [cf. H. F. Jones, Phys. Rev. D 78, 065032 (2008)]. We complement and modify this result by showing that a return to the causal and...
