چکیده
Neuroinflammation is a highly reactive response that has not been addressed due to its complexity. Some of molecular pathways, such as glycosylation, have neglected in the past. Despite intricacy and diversity glycome, there an increased interest this field study, which resulted fostering advances glycobiology glycochemistry. These supported emergence new class glyco-engineered approaches, biomaterial-based strategies can address different disease glycophenotypes. Even though these are extensively used yet, review aims provide resourceful toolbox build wide variety novel materials be designed tackle glyco-dysregulations seen neuroinflammation. By assembling already-well-described knowledge from chemistry, best both worlds harnessed toward biomaterial science branch study: polymeric-based glyco-modulatory materials.

Towards an in vitro model mimicking the foreign body response: tailoring the surface properties of biomaterials to modulate extracellular matrix
Despite various studies to minimize host reaction following a biomaterial implantation, an appealing strategy in regenerative medicine is to actively use such an immune response to trigger and control tissue regeneration. We have developed an in vitro model to modulate the host response by tuning biomaterials' surface properties through surface modifications techniques as a new strategy for tis...
متن کاملProtein-engineered biomaterials: nanoscale mimics of the extracellular matrix.
BACKGROUND Traditional materials used as in vitro cell culture substrates are rigid and flat surfaces that lack the exquisite nano- and micro-scale features of the in vivo extracellular environment. While these surfaces can be coated with harvested extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins to partially recapitulate the bio-instructive nature of the ECM, these harvested proteins often exhibit large ba...
متن کاملExtracellular matrix as target for antitumor therapy
The aim of the present review is to survey the accumulated knowledge on the extracellular matrix (ECM) of tumors referring to its putative utility as therapeutic target. Following the traditional observation on the extensive morphological alteration in the tumor-affected tissue, the well-documented aberrant cellular regulation indicated that ECM components have an active role in tumor progressi...
متن کاملP 88: Matrix Metalloproteinases in Neuroinflammation
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of neutral proteinases that are important in normal development, cellular differentiation or migration, angiogenesis, neurogenesis, wound repair, and a wide range of pathological processes such as oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. MMPs have been demonstrated to increase the permeability of the blood–brain barrier (BBB) by degrading the c...

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a gene family of neutral proteases that are important in normal development, wound healing, and a wide variety of pathological processes, including the spread of metastatic cancer cells, arthritic destruction of joints, atherosclerosis, and neuroinflammation. In the central nervous system (CNS), MMPs have been shown to degrade components of the basal lamina,...
