Sustainability of Worker Co-Operatives

With the world of business often criticised for contributing to social and environmental damage, addressing sustainability has become necessary virtually all models, including co-operatives. This article investigates ways in which worker co-operatives can contribute a more sustainable world, using conceptual lens Doughnut Economics (DE). It places enterprises, as supporting pillar our economies, at intersection between meeting needs operating within planetary boundaries. A descriptive multiple case study six UK indicates that these enterprises primarily by embodying mission fulfilling workers their communities, rather than just aiming financial gains. Worker are with highly generative design traits, distributive wealth they generate, some degree regenerative design. Their strengths lie learning capacity values sustainability. The implications demonstrated use DE model studied contributes body knowledge on relatively less researched form co-operative organisation, employing holistic framework so far been seldom used research.
