Suspended sediment transport and deposition in sediment-replenished artificial floods in Mediterranean rivers

چکیده
Dams and impoundments constructed in rivers produce changes their hydrological sediment transport regimes, regulate flows reduce the supply of sediments downstream. Artificially inducing floods from reservoirs conjunction with sediment-replenishment strategies is currently being employed to enhance river catchment areas. In this study, sediment-replenished artificial are compared non-sediment replenishment counterparts. The hysteretic loops between suspended concentration water flow present low normalized hysteresis indices (close zero) flood events. current work, produced a balanced contrast without cases. varied different particle sizes studied same flow, indicating that types particles transported differently despite flow. Furthermore, both sedimentation rate during events was greater for cases than non-sediment-replenishment All things considered, flooding provides successful management strategy more could be used as restoration practice.

23 Sediment Transport and Deposition in Mountain Rivers
In many ways, sediment transport dynamics in mountain environments differ from those of the lowlands. The high relief and the steep slopes are an obvious feature of mountain areas. The cold climate is another factor controlling runoff and erosional processes, and the distribution of vegetation is also controlled by the prevailing climate. Above the tree line, processes of erosion are more inten...
متن کاملSuspended Sediment Estimation for Rivers using Artificial Neural Networks and Sediment Rating Curves
The methods available for sediment concentration and flux estimation are largely empirical, with sediment rating curves being the most widely applied. In this study, a comparison is made between artificial neural networks (ANNs) and sediment rating curves for two rivers with very similar catchment areas and characteristics in the north of England. Data from one river are used to estimate sedime...
متن کاملUncertainties in Evaluation of the Sediment Transport Rates in Typical Coarse-Bed Rivers in Iran
Flow and sediment transport processes are different and more complex in coarse-bed rivers than in sand-bed rivers. The main goal of the present study is to evaluate different modes of sediment transport using different hydrometric and hydraulic methods, and to address the major uncertainties. Four river reaches were selected as representatives of coarse-bed rivers in the Northwest of Iran. A se...
متن کاملSuspended sediment and sediment-associated contaminants in San Francisco Bay.
Water-quality managers desire information on the temporal and spatial variability of contaminant concentrations and the magnitudes of watershed and bed-sediment loads in San Francisco Bay. To help provide this information, the Regional Monitoring Program for Trace Substances in the San Francisco Estuary (RMP) takes advantage of the association of many contaminants with sediment particles by con...
متن کاملSediment Transport in Unsteady Flow Conditions
Sediment transport under unsteady flow condition is studied experimentally. In the first step, sediment transport under different steady flow conditions was measured and an empirical equation was derived for its calculation. In the next step, two continuous and three stepwise hydrographs were generated in the flume, and their sediment transport rate was measured. The continuous hydrographs were...
