Survival of oral tongue cancer in low middle-income country: a cohort study

Abstract Introduction The incidence of oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC) is increasing. OTSCC comparatively higher in our region owing to the consumption tobacco, beetle nut, alcohol, and poor hygiene. There paucity survival data for from high-burden region. Background region, we aimed determine 5-year overall disease-free patients with OTSCC. Methods A retrospective chart review was conducted all treated January 2000 December 2013. on collected via telephonic interviews up till 2018. Kaplan Meier curves were plotted graphically represent survival. Results total 131 included. mean age 49.4 ± 12.98 years, most being male (65.9%). common tumor stage T2 (55.1%) nodal N0 (57.7%). Five-year 59.2%, 60.7%. Overall dropped steeply 84.4 7.5% who developed recurrence cohort. Conclusion significant factor influencing recurrence. recurrence-free 84.4% which greater than reported literature. This could be due low perineural perivascular invasion population. Further research factors leading should done.
