Surface Water Potential Assessment and Water Demand Evaluation (A Case of Dabus Watershed, Blue Nile Basin)
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dabus sub-basin is one of the main tributaries Blue Nile with a considerable surface water potential which can be used for hydro power, irrigation, and supply. Lack studies regarding potential and demands at level reason why this was underutilized. The objective study to assess water potential evaluate current future demand by using Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) model sub-basin. was constructed on four different scenarios starting from account (2020) wherein all the data filled into estimate and demands different sectors. include Scenario 1: reference scenario; 2: Change in population growth rate; 3: Irrigation water projection; 4: Increased domestic demand. The scenario has helped analyzing “what if” questions. For the overall demand, coverage unmet were analyzed based three-time horizon as (2020-2030, 2030-2040, and 2040-2050). estimated average annual flow 6.536 Billion Cubic Meter (BCM) generated precipitation 14.987 BCM. The model showed 100% except irrigation demand projection scenario have some months year.

Not only have recent global challenges including drought, climate change, land degradation and land use change impacted the quantity of available surface water and groundwater, but also water quality has been affected as well. To study this impact, Landsat 5 satellite images and water quality data were obtained to compare the effects of land use changes on surface water quality between July of ...
