Surface Nucleation of Dispersed Droplets in Double Semicrystalline Immiscible Blends with Different Matrices

چکیده

When a minor semicrystalline phase is dispersed in an immiscible blend with another polymer the form of isolated droplets, its crystallization behavior dominated by nucleation. In particular, nucleation can occur bulk volume (homogeneous nucleation), at surface possible nucleating foreign impurities, or interface matrix polymer. Dispersed poly(butene-1) (PB) and polycaprolactone (PCL) droplet phases are employed various matrices (isotactic polypropylene (iPP), high density polyethylene (HDPE), poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) poly(butylene succinate) (PBS)). The effect self-nucleation on then probed. It shown for all investigated blends that increasing temperature (Tc) via favors interface, leading to corresponding increase droplets'; Tc. Interestingly, distinct effects observed when different compared. highest efficiency displayed pairs, which known exhibit epitaxial from previous literature, namely PB/iPP PCL/HDPE. order other thought be linked extent crystallographic matching between substrate crystals.

Surface nucleation in the crystallisation of polyethylene droplets.

The division of semi-crystalline polymeric material into small domains is an effective tool for studying crystal nucleation. The scaling behavior of the nucleation rate as a function of domain size can reveal important information about the mechanism responsible for the birth of a crystal nucleus. We have investigated the process of crystal nucleation in a system of dewetted polyethylene drople...

Particle-induced bridging in immiscible polymer blends

Pickering emulsions are emulsions whose drops are stabilized against coalescence by particles adsorbed at their interface. Recent research on oil/water/particle systems shows that particles can sometimes adsorb at two oil/ water interfaces. Such “bridging particles” can glue together drops of oil in water or vice versa. We hypothesize that the same effect should apply in immiscible polymer blen...

Compatibilized Immiscible Polymer Blends for Gas Separations

Membrane-based gas separation has attracted a great deal of attention recently due to the requirement for high purity gasses in industrial applications like fuel cells, and because of environment concerns, such as global warming. The current methods of cryogenic distillation and pressure swing adsorption are energy intensive and costly. Therefore, polymer membranes have emerged as a less energy...

Rheology and Morphology Development in Immiscible Polymer Blends

In this review, progress towards a fundamental understanding of the rheologymorphology relationship in immiscible polymer blends is discussed. The behaviour of biphasic polymer fluids, containing Newtonian components and subjected to simple shear flows is relatively well understood at present. The behaviour of these “simple” blends will be discussed first, as it serves as a reference for the ot...

Thermally induced collision of droplets in an immiscible outer fluid

Micro-total analysis systems (μTAS) have attracted wide attention and are identified as a promising solution for sample transport, filtration, chemical reactions, separation and detection. Despite their popularity, the selection of an appropriate mechanism for droplet transport and coalescence has always been a challenge. This paper investigates the use of Marangoni flow as a mechanism for levi...
