Surface monitoring of road pavements using mobile crowdsensing technology

• Road-pavement surface monitoring, distresses classification and measurement. Comparison of crowdsensing-based monitoring technologies visual inspections. Efficiency effectiveness road-pavement surveys for optimal maintenance. Pavement-surface characteristics should be considered during road maintenance safe comfortable driving. A detailed up-to-date report network conditions is required to optimize a plan. However, manual inspection methods, such as periodic surveys, are time-consuming expensive. common technology used address this issue SmartRoadSense, collaborative system the automatic detection road-surface using Global Positioning System receivers triaxial accelerometers contained in mobile devices. In study, results SmartRoadSense conducted on Provincial Road 2 (SP2) Salerno, Italy, were compared with Distress Cadastre data same province pavement condition indices different sections SP2. Although was found vary distress type, confirmed very efficient most critical failures.
