CO2 adsorption by activated templated carbons.
Highly porous carbons have been prepared by the chemical activation of two mesoporous carbons obtained by using hexagonal- (SBA-15) and cubic (KIT-6)-ordered mesostructured silica as hard templates. These materials were investigated as sorbents for CO(2) capture. The activation process was carried out with KOH at different temperatures in the 600-800°C range. Textural characterization of these ...
متن کاملSustainable porous carbons with a superior performance for CO2 capture
Sustainable porous carbons have been prepared by chemical activation of hydrothermally carbonized polysaccharides (starch and cellulose) and biomass (sawdust). These materials were investigated as sorbents for CO2 capture. The activation process was carried out under severe (KOH/precursor=4) or mild (KOH/precursor=2) activation conditions at different temperatures in the 600-800oC range. Textur...
متن کاملFunctionalized Polymeric Membranes for CO2 Capture
Reducing CO2 emission and lowering the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has quickly become one of the most urgent environmental issues. While a variety of technologies and methods have been developed, the separation of CO2 from gas streams is still a critical issue. Apart from establishing new techniques, the exploration of membrane materials with high separation performance ...
متن کاملDeveloping almond shell-derived activated carbons as CO2 adsorbents
Two series of carbon dioxide adsorbents were prepared from almond shells, by carbonisation followed either by activation with CO2 or by heat treatment in the presence of ammonia gas (amination). Both procedures gave carbons with high CO2 adsorption capacities in pure CO2 as well as in a binary mixture of 15 % CO2 in N2. Activation with carbon dioxide significantly developed porosity in the samp...
متن کاملAn efficient low-temperature route to nitrogen-doping and activation of mesoporous carbons for CO2 capture.
An innovative strategy for post-synthesis nitrogen-doping of mesoporous carbons (MCs) with high yields (>90%) at low temperatures (230-380 °C) by using a strong base, sodium amide (NaNH2), was developed. The as-prepared N-doped MCs exhibit a significantly enhanced CO2 adsorption performance in terms of capacity and selectivity when compared to their parent MCs.
