چکیده

Variation of surface sensible heat flux over the west coast in premises National Center for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR), Vasco-da-Gama (15° 21' N, 73° 51' E), Goa during Offshore trough (phase-I) Warm pool campaigns (phase-II) ARMEX is studied. Sensible as measured by sonic anemometer at 5 m above -50 to 150 Wm-2 13-28 July, 2002 (phase I) -5 350 21-24 April, 2003 II). Coastal atmospheric layer night time found be near neutral (nearly zero flux) April whereas stable (negative July 2002. All components solar radiation Eppley radiometers 2 are used compute net which 900 noon 2003. Net nearly equal incoming short wave daytime long (100 Wm-2) compensates loss due reflection (-100 ground. High winds observed late hours with calm around sunrise after sunset giving rise two minima diurnal curve. Influence sea-breeze on land discussed.

July droughts over Homogeneous Indian Monsoon region and Indian Ocean dipole during El Niño events

The monthly summer monsoon rainfall over the Homogeneous Indian Monsoon region (HI) that represents most of the variance of all-India monsoon rainfall is investigated using observational data from 1880 to 2002. Severe droughts in July occur mostly during El Niño events of the boreal summer monsoon season. They occurred frequently in the late 19th to early 20th century, rarely in the middle of t...

Impact of surface meteorological observations on RAMS forecast of monsoon weather systems over the Indian region

An attempt has been made to study the impact of surface meteorological observations on the Regional Atmospheric Modelling System (RAMS) simulation of a monsoon depression and two low pressure systems. The surface observations are blended with the GEWEX Asian Monsoon Experiment (GAME) gridded analyses for these cases. In one set of experiments the model is run in 12 hour nudging mode initially a...

A persistent northern boundary of Indian Summer Monsoon precipitation over Central Asia during the Holocene

Extra-tropical circulation systems impede poleward moisture advection by the Indian Summer Monsoon. In this context, the Himalayan range is believed to insulate the south Asian circulation from extra-tropical influences and to delineate the northern extent of the Indian Summer Monsoon in central Asia. Paleoclimatic evidence, however, suggests increased moisture availability in the Early Holocen...

1 Air Sea Interaction Over the Indian Ocean During the Contrasting Monsoon

[1] The air sea interaction processes over the Indian Ocean are studied using the satellite data from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Satellite for two contrasting monsoon years, namely 2002 (deficit) and 2003 (normal). The moisture transport for the two contrasting years was also analyzed using the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data. Linear correlation coefficient between the convective heating...

The vertical structure of cloud radiative heating over the Indian subcontinent during summer monsoon

Clouds forming during the summer monsoon over the Indian subcontinent affect its evolution through their radiative impact as well as the release of latent heat. While the latter is previously studied to some extent, comparatively little is known about the radiative impact of different cloud types and the vertical structure of their radiative heating/cooling effects. Therefore, the main aim of t...
