Polynomial overrings of Int(Z)
We show that every polynomial overring of the ring Int(Z) of polynomials which are integer-valued over Z may be considered as the ring of polynomials which are integer-valued over some subset of Ẑ, the profinite completion of Z with respect to the fundamental system of neighbourhoods of 0 consisting of all non-zero ideals of Z.
متن کاملAsymptotic behavior of discrete holomorphic maps z and log(z)
It is shown that discrete analogs of z and log(z), defined via particular “integrable” circle patterns, have the same asymptotic behavior as their smooth counterparts. These discrete maps are described in terms of special solutions of discrete Painlevé-II equations, asymptotics of these solutions providing the behaviour of discrete z and log(z) at infinity.
متن کاملUse of lambda-mu-sigma-derived Z score for evaluating respiratory impairment in middle-aged persons.
BACKGROUND The lambda-mu-sigma (LMS) method calculates the lower limit of normal for spirometric values as the 5th percentile of the distribution of Z scores. Conceptually, LMS-derived Z scores account for normal age-related changes in pulmonary function, including variability and skewness in reference data. Evidence is limited, however, on whether the LMS method is valid for evaluating respir...
متن کاملmu-Charts and Z: examples and extensions
p-Charts are a way of specifying reactive systems, i.e. systerns which are in some environment to which they have to react, based on the well-established formalism Statecharts. This paper gives (very abbreviated) examples of translating p-charts to Z, which is itself a well-established language for specifying computational systems with tried and tested methods and support tools which guide its ...
متن کاملOn Seneta’s Constants for the Supercritical Bellman-Harris Process with E(Z+ log Z+) = ∞
For a finite mean supercriticial Bellman-Harris process, let Zt be the number of particles at time t. There exist numbers χt (the Seneta constants) such that χtZt converges almost surely to a non-degenerate limit. Furthermore, χt ∝ e −βt L(e), where β is the Malthusian parameter, and L is slowly varying at zero. We obtain a characterisation of the slowly varying part of the Seneta constants und...
