چکیده
Abstract Porphyry copper deposits, the principal source of and molybdenum, form at convergent margins. Copper is precipitated from fluids associated with cooling magmas that have formed in mantle evolved mid- to lower crustal levels, before rising toward surface where they saturate exsolve an aqueous fluid copper. Despite advances understanding their formation, there are still underexplored aspects genesis porphyry deposits. Here we examine role played by magma injection rates into upper crust on formation deposits different endowments. Mass balance calculations suggest supergiant (>10 million tonnes copper) require volumes (up >2500 km 3 ) (>0.001 year −1 typical large volcanic eruptions rift, hot spot, subduction-related settings. Because would destroy magmatic-hydrothermal systems or prevent largest can be considered as failed this may one causes rarity.

Why large porphyry Cu deposits like high Sr/Y magmas?
Porphyry systems supply most copper and significant gold to our economy. Recent studies indicate that they are frequently associated with high Sr/Y magmatic rocks, but the meaning of this association remains elusive. Understanding the association between high Sr/Y magmatic rocks and porphyry-type deposits is essential to develop genetic models that can be used for exploration purposes. Here we ...
متن کاملTempo of magma degassing and the genesis of porphyry copper deposits
Porphyry deposits are copper-rich orebodies formed by precipitation of metal sulphides from hydrothermal fluids released from magmatic intrusions that cooled at depth within the Earth's crust. Finding new porphyry deposits is essential because they are our largest source of copper and they also contain other strategic metals including gold and molybdenum. However, the discovery of giant porphyr...
متن کاملAdvances in Geological Models and Exploration Methods for Copper ± Gold Porphyry Deposits
This paper focuses on the relationships between the geological model and exploration techniques for porphyry Cu ± Au deposits, with reference to the discovery record and exploration practices over the past fifteen years. The porphyry model is built on a long record of study dating back to the 1960s which has been gradually refined to encompass differences and complexities in mineralization and ...
