Supercritical CO2 Binary Mixtures for Recompression Brayton s-CO2 Power Cycles Coupled to Solar Thermal Energy Plants

In this work, an evaluation and quantification of the impact using mixtures based on supercritical carbon dioxide “s-CO2” (s-CO2/COS, s-CO2/H2S, s-CO2/NH3, s-CO2/SO2) are made as a working fluid in simple complex recompression Brayton s-CO2 power cycle configurations that have pressure drops their components. These cycles coupled with solar thermal plant parabolic-trough collector (PTC) technology. The methodology used calculation performance is to establish values heat recuperator total conductance (UAtotal) between 5 25 MW/K. main conclusion work cycle’s efficiency has improved due fluid; significant compared results obtained standard (pure s-CO2). Furthermore, techno-economic analysis carried out compares each configuration’s costs pure mixture s-CO2/COS molar fraction (70/30), respectively, where relevant obtained. show best configuration terms cost RCC-RH for sCO2 41.25% 2811 $/kWe, while sCO2/COS, RCC-2RH 45.05% 2621 $/kWe optimal. Using 6.75% less than if it (s-CO2).
