Super twisting sliding mode approach applied to voltage orientated control of a stand-alone induction generator

Abstract To enhance the robustness and dynamic performance of a self-excited induction generator (SEIG) used in stand-alone wind energy system (WES), virtual flux oriented control (VFOC) based on nonlinear super-twisting sliding mode (STSMC) is adopted. STSMC to replace conventional proportional-integral-Fuzzy Logic Controller (PI-FLC) inner current loops. The combination proposed strategy with space vector modulation (SVM) applied PWM rectifier brings many advantages such as reduction harmonics, precise rapid tracking references. technique (STSMC-VFOC-SVM) verified through simulations compared traditional (PI-FLC-VFOC-SVM). It shows that method improves dynamics reduced harmonics. In addition, use estimator instead phase-locked loop (PLL) eliminates line voltage sensors thus increases reliability system.
